SOCOPA exists to empower individuals by helping them overcome the systemic and personal barriers they encounter, from accessing public services to fostering social connections. Our holistic approach builds a community rooted in trust and resilience, ensuring that those who turn to us for help receive both immediate assistance and the tools they need for long-term success.

                                         Vision

At SOCOPA, we envision a future where Somali communities are integral contributors to UK society, thriving as prosperous, educated, and active citizens with equal opportunities. We aim to create an environment where our members are empowered to pursue their ambitions and contribute to the broader community.

We treasure our Somali religion, culture, and language, and we strive to pass down this rich heritage to new generations. As young people grow up in British society, we encourage them to value and respect their cultural roots, fostering a sense of pride in their identity alongside a commitment to unity and mutual respect in their new home.

                                    Board of Trustees

                                   Strategic Aims

As a result of measurable support from SOCOPA…

Families and vulnerable individuals are better able to engage with public and statutory bodies, avoid crisis points and reduce the stress and anxiety that this can cause.

Young people will continue to improve their performance at school (various measures) and the continue to further and higher education.

Somalis in Leicester will grow in prosperity particularly through rates of employment amongst younger generations
that are comparable with the best.

The health and well-being of the most vulnerable members in the Somali community will improve, particularly
those who are isolated, the elderly and those with long-term health conditions.

Somalis will continue to celebrate and value their cultural and religious heritage through community events and other initiatives.

There will be a greater understanding of the needs of the Somali community amongst public service organisations such as health services, the local authority and police.
