Extensions of local lockdown As you will have seen in the news, the government has extended our local lockdown restrictions for at least another two weeks. While this remains a frustrating situation for all of us, the good news is that we are making progress. The number of confirmed new cases is falling and we now have the detailed data we need to help us take targeted local action. In recent days we’ve significantly expanded our local testing efforts. The staff and volunteers knocking on doors around the city are part of an organised programme being managed by Leicester City Council with the support of local NHS services. Taking a test is completely safe and it is also free. Go to our website for the latest information and to see which areas the community testing is focusing on over the coming week. And remember that you can book a test at a test centre no matter where you live. If you have a new, persistent cough, a fever or have a new loss of taste or smell, book a test online or dial 119. Thank you for everything you are doing to help bring down the rate of infection in the city. The way out of lockdown is to find cases of coronavirus, isolate them and stop it spreading further. If you have symptoms, get tested. If you are contacted, take the test.Peter SoulsbyCity Mayor |
